Gomez
Liquid Skin

When we go over to hang out at our high school buddy Coondog's house, sure as shit there's going to be some late 70's or early 80's rock band jamming from his stereo - Sammy Hagar, AC/DC, the Doors, Led Zeppelin. Coonan hasn't taken a CD recommendation from us since we got his older brothers making fun of him for buying a couple Adam and the Ants albums back when MTV hit the airwaves. Because, as his shtick goes, "it's not rock, man, rock died with the big hair bands in the late 80's."  This Gomez disc is what "rock" is today. Sure, it's guitars, bass, drums, hard singing and simple but good songwriting. But it's also smarter and updated where needed with some scratching, finger snaps, and electronica background swirls thrown in for good measure. Similarities will probably be drawn with Pearl Jam, for good reason - there's a similar guitar and vocal approach between the bands.

So, Coondog, if you're reading this - go out and buy this one! You'll like it - and won't receive the torment you got from your brothers after your Prince Charming purchase. ROCK ON!
